Co-financed by the Regione Emilia-Romagna through the POR-FESR 2014–2020 and completed in 2019, the Efficity project had a clear goal: to demonstrate how advanced technologies can help reduce energy consumption, CO₂ emissions and operating costs in urban districts.

By integrating monitoring systems and AI-based optimisation algorithms, the project explored the potential of so-called smart district energy systems: intelligent networks that can coordinate and balance energy supply and demand, integrating renewable sources.

Optit took part as an industrial partner, deploying its digital platforms to optimise the management and control of the energy networks involved in the project. The results showed that smarter energy management in urban districts is not only possible, but also replicable.

Efficity was an important milestone in developing digital solutions to support the local energy transition, providing concrete evidence of the role that algorithmic optimisation can play in urban sustainability.
