EcosistER brings together 23 partners, including 6 universities, 4 research bodies and several public-private organisations based in Emilia-Romagna. The project promotes the Technology Transfer Innovation Programme (TTIP), with the aim of harnessing industrial research as a driver of sustainable economic development.
DOCABILITY sits within this framework: a training activity that gives PhD candidates the opportunity to engage with selected companies on industrial topics linked to the sustainable transition.
The meeting at Optit was an important opportunity for our team — represented by Luca Ferrari and Maria Francesca Colombo — to exchange ideas with the researchers involved, exploring the challenges of optimising energy plants and networks.
We shared some hands-on approaches and ran creative problem-solving exercises, discussing a few key challenges:
✅ How to embed a Digital Twin within an established industrial process, and the communication challenges this involves
✅ Decarbonisation and emissions reduction in energy-intensive companies, and the economic impact
✅ Optimising energy efficiency investments and optimisation strategies for the sustainable transition
This exchange helped the PhD candidates gain a better understanding of how innovation works in an industrial setting. At the same time, for us at Optit it was a valuable chance to gather fresh perspectives and methodological approaches from the world of research.
