Upgrade DH is a Coordination and Support Action funded by Horizon 2020 and launched in 2018 with a three-year duration. The project focused on improving existing, inefficient district heating systems, proposing scalable, replicable approaches at European level.
Involving countries with different levels of maturity in District Heating & Cooling systems, including Lithuania, Poland, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Netherlands, Italy and Denmark, the project aimed to create a common base of knowledge and tools to support operators and public decision-makers in the energy transition.
We focused on analysing and qualifying retrofitting actions at the demonstration sites. Our contribution centred on supporting the definition of technical and economic strategies to optimise heat production and distribution through the application of our simulation models, forecast scenarios and decision-making tools, working alongside various stakeholders to develop more sustainable, resilient solutions.
Upgrade DH was an important opportunity to spread knowledge and good practice, helping to make the urban heating sector in Europe more efficient and green.
Funded by the European Union through the Horizon 2020 programme – Grant Agreement No. 785014.
