The challenge

Planning environmental services across a fragmented area is a complex governance challenge, especially when operations span 8 territorial areas, 4 regions and 181 municipalities.

In such different contexts, the biggest risk is the gap between desk-based theoretical planning and on-the-ground reality. Local planners face daily surprises and local nuances that central systems don’t capture. Without a tool that connects logistics design with real service data, inefficiencies build up: sub-optimal routes and a persistent gap between corporate targets and what actually happens in the field.

Gruppo Hera’s challenge was about decentralising decision-making capacity, giving every territory a standardised yet flexible tool capable of closing this operational gap.

How we create value

Optit developed the Route Design platform, a collaborative solution integrated with Hera’s Data Platform that puts Decision Science directly into the hands of users in every territory.

A routing algorithm lets planners optimise the order of stops within each route, defining the ideal visiting sequence for field operators. The real strategic value lies in the integration of a virtual assistant: the system automatically compares the planned route against the points actually visited. This feedback loop highlights any deviations and guides users in iteratively refining their planning.

The solution turns local planners into augmented decision-makers, able to fine-tune routes using real-world field evidence to make them ever more effective.
