class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 4 November, we took part in the event <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAlea Ambiente: an innovation pathway towards sustainability and digitalisation of services\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, hosted at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alea-ambiente.it\/\">ALEA Ambiente<\/a>\u2019s stand during <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecomondo.com\/en\/about\/ecomondo-fair\">Ecomondo 2025<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to illustrate how artificial intelligence can become a tangible driver of innovation in public services.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our colleagu<strong>es <\/strong><\/span><strong>Lorenzo Ravaglia and Valentina Intrusi<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> p<\/strong>resented the project developed for ALEA Ambiente, focused on <\/span><b>digitalising the design of door-to-door waste collection routes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The presentation was part of Ecomondo\u2019s programme, the leading European trade fair for the ecological transition and circular economy, and provided a concrete example of how <\/span><b>data and decision science<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can enhance the <strong>quality<\/strong>, <strong>efficiency<\/strong> and <strong>sustainability<\/strong> of environmental services.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From data-driven design to full operational autonomy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the project with ALEA, Optit worked on the <\/span><b>digitalisation of door-to-door collection route design<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, customising its optimisation solution for waste collection services to meet ALEA\u2019s specific needs.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal was clear: to move from manual planning to a fully data-driven process, combining artificial intelligence, mathematical optimisation and operational knowledge to make decisions faster and more accurately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More specifically, our objectives were to ensure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><b>data-based design<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, adaptable to operational and territorial constraints;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>simulation and comparison of different scenarios;<\/b><b>\n<\/b><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>efficiency and sustainability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at an operational level.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/optit.net\/en\/solutions\/\">Optit\u2019s solution<\/a>, ALEA can now process large volumes of data in just a few minutes, generate and compare multiple service scenarios, and integrate planning with daily service management \u2014 while maintaining full control of the entire process.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Project results: data, efficiency and autonomy for a more sustainable service<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What results have we achieved?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The ability to process an immense amount of data in just a few minutes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The optimisation of door-to-door collection services across <\/span>13 municipalities in the Forl\u00ec area<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, serving <\/span><b>100,000 users<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and involving <\/span><b>400,000 containers.<\/b><b>\n<\/b><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Full autonomy for ALEA Ambiente\u2019s staff in every phase of the design process.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These results show how a data-driven approach, based on mathematical models and optimisation algorithms, can transform a public service into an intelligent system \u2014 one that adapts to local needs and evolves over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The collaboration with ALEA Ambiente stands as a concrete example of how decision science can actively support the ecological transition, promoting management models that are more sustainable and future-oriented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery
