Optit had already worked on the 3D Bin Packing problem in projects for other clients, and was able to provide the company with algorithms customised as appropriate to meet the demands of their client. The scope: incorporate economic optimisation of transport into the optimisation of the physical fitting of packages into the container, by considering transport models for a “Full Truck Load” and a “Less than Full Truck Load”. The model, one of the functional modules, was initially tried out on the Chinese market of a large multinational and is now being applied globally on the client’s platform.
