Once again, Optit is proud to be a sponsor of AIROYoung, the youth chapter of the Italian Operations Research Society (AIRO), for the 9th edition of the AIROYoung Workshop, held from February 26 to 28, 2025, at the University of Pavia.
This year’s theme was “Shaping a Sustainable Future in the Era of Big Data.”
We had the honor of launching a new award under our brand, the “OPTIT OR in Practice Presentation Award” dedicated to the best presentation on real-world applications of Operations Research. The award recognized outstanding work based on problem relevance, scientific depth, practical application with real data, and communication effectiveness.
The winner of the award for the best applied OR presentation was Lavinia Ghilardi, with an excellent study on “Optimal gas pipelines operation: sustainability and sector coupling.”
Honorable mentions were awarded to:
• Aleyna Gürsoy – “Scheduling Blood Components Production: a Real-Life Case Study”
• Martina Doneda – “Robust operating rooms advance scheduling with probabilistic regression”
• Martina Galeazzo – “An Integer Programming Model for the Dynamic Airspace Configuration Problem”
With over 30 participants, the high level of submissions reaffirmed the exceptional talent of young researchers—essential for building a solid foundation of expertise, enthusiasm, and determination in applying Operations Research to Industry and Services. This is the very environment in which Optit was born.
