Three days, from June 24th to June 26th, of discussions about policies, regulatory framework and solution for future energy infrastructures.
The EU objective towards 2050 is to have a carbon neutral economy. This can be accomplished by investing heavily on renewable energy sources, innovative solutions for energy optimization and the integration of different energy infrastructures from the generation to the transmission and distribution levels.
Current energy systems are based on independently developed infrastructures designed and built to satisfy the demand of a particular energy vector like electricity, natural gas, heat, chill or fuels, missing the opportunity of creating synergies between them.
PlaMES (Integrated Planning of Multi-Energy System), is an EU Horizon 2020 funded project formed by a consortium of academic and industrial partners.
Indeed, the Consortium gathers RWTH Aachen IAEW, University of Bologna, Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, OEDAS, Optit and UNIPI (Optit’s Third Party).
PlaMES’s objective is to develop a decision support tool designed to determine the optimal target system, including the investment trade-off amongst different technologies, infrastructure configurations and emissions reduction.
In addition to Optit and the University of Pisa, the Conference on the Regulation of Infrastructures brings together a significant number of international researchers who have deepened the theme of energy convergence by combining academic and practical research, and presenting new perspectives of policies.
The Florence School of Regulation (FSR), also PlaMES’ advisory board member, is a centre of excellence for independent research, training and policy dialogue, regarding the regulation of Energy & Climate, Communication and Media, transportation and water.
The conference is the annual FSR event which unites all school’s department and will host a plethora of international academic researchers, policy makers and experts. The 9th edition will focus on infrastructure regulations, energy sector coupling and, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be held online from June 24th to 26th.
