Simulating to optimise: efficient hypotheses for an integrated district heating system
Feasibility analysis
of one of the largest networks in Europe
More than 100
thermohydraulic simulations run
Belgrade, Serbia: The UN Environment Programme’s District Energy in Cities Initiative chose Enova for a pre-feasibility study of the opportunities for connecting the city’s district heating networks in a single integrated system. The objective is to create an optimal mix of innovative sources that make full use of the energy available, including excess heat produced by plants outside the city, a new incinerator, and a new cogeneration plant.

Our
solution
In collaboration with Beogradske Elektrane and the University of Belgrade, Optit worked with Enova to validate the development hypotheses that were considered technically and economically feasible. The entire district heating system was mapped using the application for optimising network development and over 100 possible connection configurations were simulated. Our sophisticated thermohydraulic model made it possible to evaluate critical elements relating to pressure and flow in various configurations and under various thermal loads, revealing the most effective solutions. These were then integrated into the deliverables.
